Philippines’ Muslim region builds technohubs
Each hub will also support activities ranging from food processing and product design to digital innovation and small enterprise development
COTABATO CITY, Philippines (MNTV) – The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in the Philippines’ Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has launched the TechnoHub project, establishing specialized centers to accelerate the region’s tech capacity and cultivate local talent, according to the official website.
The initiative is part of the 75 million peso ($1.33 million) BARMM TechnoHub Project, with 25 million peso ($423,925) allocated for each construction site in Cotabato City, Malidegao (SGA), and Lamitan City, Basilan.
Minister Baileng Mantawil said that the initiative goes beyond construction and facilities.
“More than just the buildings and facilities, what we are truly building now is trust and hope—trust in the capabilities of our Bangsamoro scientists, innovators, and youth and the hope that we can transform the course of our economy through science and technology,” Mantawil said.
“The Cotabato City TechnoHub will not only provide physical space and resources but also serve as a symbol of empowerment and progress for the Bangsamoro people,” she added.
The TechnoHubs will offer research, mentorship, and training programs to boost innovation among Bangsamoro scientists, students, and entrepreneurs.
Each hub will also support activities ranging from food processing and product design to digital innovation and small enterprise development.
