Jordan launches tourism initiative to empower youth, support sustainability
Program unites conservation, culture, and community through youth-led volunteering in the iconic desert
AMMAN, Jordan (MNTV) — The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) has inaugurated a new “voluntary tourism” initiative in Wadi Rum, aimed at engaging Jordanian youth in sustainable and culturally immersive desert conservation efforts.
The launch event welcomed 24 participants from Amman and Aqaba, marking the first operational outing under the scheme, according to Travel and Tour World.
The program, developed in collaboration with Ayla Oasis Development Company and the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), is tailored to integrate tourism with volunteerism across Jordan’s uniquely beautiful and heritage-rich landscape.
ASEZA’s Commissioner for Tourism and Youth, Thabet Hassan Al-Nabulsi, articulated the dual aims of the program of fostering youth empowerment and local community support, while enhancing environmental awareness and economic vitality within the region.
Described by Al-Nabulsi as a bold step toward positioning Jordan as a leading global destination for voluntary, sustainable tourism, the program combines natural splendor and Bedouin cultural experiences to promote responsible travel and ecological stewardship.
