Israel’s renewed attacks on Lebanon leave two Israeli soldiers dead
Israeli military reports first combat fatalities since June as airstrikes continue despite a ceasefire, causing civilian casualties in southern Lebanon
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) — Two Israeli reserve soldiers were killed during fighting in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said, marking its first reported battlefield fatalities since June 28 as Israel continues military operations across the border despite an existing ceasefire.
The military said the soldiers were killed on Wednesday in southern Lebanon, while four other Israeli soldiers sustained serious injuries in the same incident. It did not immediately provide further details on the circumstances of the clash.
The announcement came a day after Israel resumed airstrikes in southern Lebanon, claiming Hezbollah had violated the ceasefire.
The renewed bombardment followed the start of negotiations in Rome aimed at securing an agreement to halt the fighting.
Before launching the strikes, the Israeli military issued an evacuation warning to residents of the village of Al-Mansouri, the first such warning in several weeks.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, a separate Israeli airstrike hit a cemetery in southern Lebanon, killing one civilian and injuring 11 others.
The attack added to mounting concerns over the impact of Israel’s military operations on civilian areas despite the ceasefire.
Al-Mansouri, located about nine kilometers south of Tyre and near the Israeli border, has faced repeated Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling in recent weeks.
Although local authorities allowed residents to return to the village in June, they warned them to avoid areas designated by Israel as part of a self-declared “security zone.”
Israel maintains military positions inside a strip of southern Lebanon extending roughly 10 kilometers from the border, where its forces have carried out widespread demolition operations, drawing continued criticism over violations of Lebanese sovereignty and the fragile ceasefire.
