GTA Weekend Driving Alert: Sections of DVP, Gardiner, and Line 1 Subway Will Be Closed
If you’re planning to visit Toronto this weekend, please note that two major highways leading into and out of the city will experience partial closures, along with a significant subway closure downtown.
Highway Closures
Both stretches of the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) and the Gardiner Expressway will be closed over the weekend to facilitate construction related to the Ontario Line. The city indicates that these closures are necessary to enable construction crews to move the eastern section of the new Lower Don Bridge over the DVP to its permanent location as part of the Ontario Line project.
The closures will take effect from 11 p.m. on Friday, January 30, until 5 a.m. on Monday, February 2.
DVP:
– The southbound DVP will be closed from Bayview Avenue to the Gardiner Expressway.
– The southbound DVP on-ramp from Bayview Avenue will also be closed.
– The northbound DVP on-ramp at Don Roadway will be closed.
Gardiner Expressway:
– The westbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from the DVP to Lower Jarvis Street. (The westbound on-ramp from Lower Jarvis Street will remain open.)
– The eastbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from Bay Street to the DVP, continuing northbound until Eastern Avenue.
– The eastbound on-ramps at Rees and Bay Streets will also be closed.
Line 1 Subway Closure
Additionally, Line 1 of the subway downtown will be closed throughout the weekend. The TTC reports that there will be no subway service on Line 1 between St. George and St. Andrew stations from 11 p.m. on Friday, January 30, through the weekend, due to planned station work. Regular service will resume on Monday morning.
Please note that shuttle buses will not replace the regular subway service. The TTC advises using east-west routes to transfer to the Yonge line for north or south travel.

And watch out for slick roads and black ice while driving. The snow may have ended, but the brutal windchill is doing a number on our roads.
