Good Friday Weekend is Here: What’s Open and Closed in the GTA.
This winter in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has been quite challenging for some residents. We’re not just referring to the significant snowfall that required regular shoveling. The unpredictable weather kept switching between winter and spring, making it hard to enjoy the outdoors. However, it seems we’ve finally been granted some reprieve, allowing us to embrace spring, enjoy sunny days, and spend quality time outdoors with family.
And the long Easter weekend, starting tomorrow, fits right into our plans! But before you finalize your plans for these relaxing days, here’s a quick overview of which attractions and services will be open or closed during the break:
Public Transit:
– Ā Ā Ā TTC: Holiday service will be in effect on Good Friday, operating all routes on their Sunday schedules, but starting earlier, around 6 a.m.
– Ā Ā Ā Go Transit: Go Transit routes will follow the Saturday schedule on Good Friday.
Government Services: Government offices will be closed on Good Friday. However, essential services (such as police, fire, and emergency services) will continue to operate as usual.
Toronto Public Library: The library will be closed on Good Friday.
Postal Service: Canada Post and UPS will be closed on Good Friday.
Halal Restaurants: Most Halal eateries will remain open on Good Friday. It’s advisable to call ahead to confirm their hours before you visit with your family.
Groceries: Many Halal grocery stores will be open. However, large chains like Costco, Walmart, FreshCo, Metro, and Loblaws will be closed, with a few exceptions. Several No-Frills locations may be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., so check their website for specific hours.
Pharmacies: Pharmacies such as Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall will operate with modified hours.
Malls:
– The following malls will be open:
Ā Ā – CF Toronto Eaton Centre (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
Ā Ā – CF Markville (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
Ā Ā – Promenade Shopping Centre (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
Ā Ā – Hillcrest Mall (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
Ā Ā Other popular malls will be closed.
Entertainment: Movie theatres will be open on Good Friday.

– Ā Ā Ā CN Tower: Open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
– Ā Ā Ā Ripleyās Aquarium of Canada: Open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
– Ā Ā Ā Royal Ontario Museum: Open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
– Ā Ā Ā Art Gallery of Ontario: Open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
– Ā Ā Ā Casa Loma: Open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Ā Ā Ā Toronto Zoo: Open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
– Ā Ā Ā Allan Gardens Conservatory: Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Ā Ā Ā Hockey Hall of Fame: Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
