Gaza continues to bleed: Israel kills 61 Palestinians in 24 hours
Civilian areas hit across Gaza amid growing starvation and siege; global calls mount to stop Israel’s extermination war
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) — At least 61 Palestinians were killed on Wednesday in a fresh wave of Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, as the war-hit enclave endures a suffocating blockade and growing famine under relentless bombardment.
The deadliest strike targeted al-Wehda Street in Gaza City, where two Israeli drone missiles struck near the Thai and Palmyra restaurants, killing at least 17 people.
Another 13 civilians were killed in an air raid on al-Karama School in the Tuffah neighborhood, while three died in a strike on a home in Jabalia.
In Khan Younis, eight members of the same family — including children — died when their home was hit. Strikes also claimed lives in Deir el-Balah, Bani Suheila, and Beit Lahia, with reports of tents and shelters being targeted.
More bodies were recovered from a UN-run school in Bureij that was bombed earlier this week, pushing the death toll there to over 30.
Since Israel resumed its assault after the collapse of the last ceasefire, 2,507 Palestinians have been killed. The overall death toll since October 2023 now exceeds 52,653, according to Health Ministry.
The Israeli military says operations will intensify unless a ceasefire deal is reached. But Hamas dismissed ongoing negotiations as meaningless. “There is no sense in engaging in talks as long as the hunger war and extermination war continue,” said Hamas official Basem Naim.
The humanitarian situation is dire. UNRWA warned that displaced families are left with only bread, with food, water, and medicine nearly gone. “The State of Israel must lift the siege,” the agency said on X, urging the global community to prevent “an unseen level” of catastrophe.
Hospitals are overwhelmed. More than 88% of beds are occupied, and supplies of disposables, fuel, and antibiotics have collapsed. With aid blocked at border crossings, doctors say the health system is “in free fall.”
On the diplomatic front, Egypt and Qatar reaffirmed mediation efforts alongside the U.S., stressing their commitment to end the war and ease the suffering. “Attempts to sow discord between allies will not deter our efforts,” a joint statement said.
However, hopes for a deal are fading.
The Israeli government has openly declared plans to escalate military operations in southern Gaza, drawing criticism from six European nations, who jointly condemned “any demographic or territorial changes in Gaza.”
Despite global outrage and a growing death toll, the war continues unabated.
More than two months into the siege, Gaza remains trapped — battered by bombs, strangled by blockade, and gripped by famine.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant last year, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Israel also faces a separate genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
