French outlet fined over discriminatory remarks targeting Muslims, Algerians
Broadcast watchdog says 2025 segments risked inciting bias and linking minorities to security threats
PARIS, France (MNTV) — France’s audiovisual regulator Arcom has fined news channel CNews €100,000 (about $119,000) over two televised segments aired in 2025 that authorities said promoted discriminatory narratives against Muslims and Algerians.
Arcom said the programs encouraged biased perceptions by portraying Algerian nationals as a major public safety threat and by broadly associating Palestinians with the perpetrators of the October 7, 2023 attack.
The regulator added that it had previously issued warnings to the channel over similar content and urged the broadcaster to prevent programming that could fuel discriminatory behavior.
