False Bomb Threats Disrupt Multiple Canadian Airports
Several major Canadian airports experienced significant disruptions on Thursday morning due to simultaneous bomb threats targeting Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver.
Nav Canada, the agency responsible for air traffic control, confirmed that these threats led to temporary ground stops and security investigations. Operations returned to normal shortly after officials determined the threats were unfounded.
In a statement posted at 11 a.m. ET, Nav Canada expressed gratitude to staff and law enforcement for their swift response. As operations resumed, they cautioned that some delays might still occur.
Due to security protocols, Nav Canada did not disclose specific details about the threats. The RCMP in Winnipeg reported that a call claiming there was a bomb in the airport’s control tower was received around 6:05 a.m. CT. A thorough search revealed no suspicious items. Vancouver RCMP also confirmed that their threat was a “false report” after evacuating and clearing the control tower around 2 a.m. PT.
Ottawa, Edmonton, and Calgary airports confirmed security incidents that caused minimal disruptions, with all operations returning to normal by mid-morning. Montreal airport officials reported that services resumed by 7:30 a.m. ET.
Air Canada indicated that there was minimal impact on its flights but urged passengers to check their flight status. The RCMP continues to investigate the source of the threats, which authorities have deemed not credible.
