China’s Sinopec secures $359M contract for Iraq’s Ratawi oilfield expansion
Deal with TotalEnergies includes well pad construction, pipeline network, and facilities upgrade by 2029
BAGHDAD, Iraq (MNTV) — Sinopec Oilfield Service, a subsidiary of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, has signed a $359 million agreement to carry out expansion and modification works at the Ratawi oilfield in southern Iraq, the company said.
The contract, awarded by project developer TotalEnergies EP Ratawi Hub Sas, tasks Sinopec with engineering, procurement, supply, construction, and commissioning. Mechanical completion of the project is targeted for March 2029.
Plans include the construction of five new production and injection well pads, renovation of 11 existing pads, installation of 44 oil pipelines totaling 140 kilometers, and supporting fiber-optic and electrical cable systems, Sinopec said.
The deal strengthens the Chinese firm’s footprint in Iraq’s oil and gas sector. Sinopec has recently won other major projects in the region, including a $1.1 billion contract for Saudi Arabia’s Master Gas System expansion and a $137 million deal for new production facilities at the East Baghdad oilfield in partnership with a local company.
