Algiers and Cairo finalize 18 new agreements covering trade, energy, security, and social development to accelerate bilateral ties
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — Algeria and Egypt signed 18 agreements, memorandums, and cooperation programs, marking a major expansion of their bilateral partnership at the ninth session of the Algerian-Egyptian High Joint Committee in Cairo.
The signing ceremony, attended by Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, formalized collaboration across interior affairs, finance, energy, industry, trade, housing, higher education, research, training, youth, sports, culture, and social solidarity.
According to an Algerian government statement, the two sides also concluded memorandums in accreditation, agricultural research, archiving, consumer protection, and local development, along with an agreement on energy transition and renewable energy.
Executive programs for youth, sports, culture, vocational training, and social affairs were included, alongside a protocol on public administration.
During bilateral talks earlier in the day, Ghrieb urged stronger coordination between the two countries to safeguard their interests in the global gas market.
He stressed that recent geopolitical shifts have elevated energy to a top priority in international strategic planning.
Official Algerian data show that bilateral trade surpassed 1 billion dollars in 2024, an 18 percent rise from 872 million dollars in 2023. Both countries aim to increase trade volume to 5 billion dollars in the coming period.
The Algerian Agency for Investment Promotion reported registering 21 Egyptian investment projects since 2023, including 12 joint ventures.
Egyptian investments in Algeria now exceed 3 billion dollars, with agency chief Omar Rekkache commending the strong performance of Egyptian firms operating in the country.
The High Joint Committee has convened eight previous rounds, most recently in mid-2022 in Algiers, where both sides signed a range of economic and development agreements.
