COP 26
This conference is being called the world’s last hope. UN chief Antonio Guterres said that we are digging our own graves. Greta Thunberg is on the streets outside the UN climate conference with more than a million signatures. She is accusing political leaders of betrayal. They are all in Glasgow Scotland today for the Climate Conference. But no one is talking about the biggest greenhouse gas emitters, The American wars. The US military is the greatest polluter on earth today. It is the world leader in emitting greenhouse gases and wasteful use of fossil fuels. It pollutes more than as many as 140 countries combined. US armed forces create 750,000 tons of toxic waste every year in the form of depleted uranium, oil, jet fuels, pesticides, defoliants, lead and other chemicals. If the US military were a country, its fuel usage alone would make it the 47th largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world. In Colfax, Los Angeles, the military burns explosives and munitions waste several times a day with no environmental emissions control and has been doing so for decades. The army is the single largest consumer of energy in the U.S. Initially military pollution was a part of 1997 Kyoto treaty but it was excluded due to the pressure by the US. Politics is holding the world back. The world is failing from meeting the climate challenge. Despite knowing that this is the only world we have. And this frustrated Greta Thunberg. "We say: no more 'blah blah blah', no more exploitation of people and nature and the planet. No more exploitation, no more 'blah blah blah'. No more whatever the f*** they're doing inside there! We are sick and tired of it and we are going to make the change, whether they like it or not. They have kept going on for too long, and we are not going to let them get away anymore. We are not."
